- Under this bill, a minority is required to live in India for at least 6 to get citizenship of India. Under the old law (Citizenship Act 1955), Indian citizenship was required to remain in India for at least 11 years.

- Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, there is a provision to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who come to India before December 31, 2014 from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan.
